Ken Steven

Hailing from Medan, Ken Steven (b.1993) is an accomplished Indonesian choral composer, arranger, and conductor. As composer, He is known for his fusion of Indonesian colors and elements with modern techniques and harmonies. His works have been performed by choirs around the world, and has contributed extensively to the development of choral music in Indonesia. He holds a Bachelor degree from The Asian Institute for Liturgy and Music, Philippines that explores the inculturation of church music. With a deep understanding of blending diverse musical traditions, he then embarked on a Master's degree journey in Choral Conducting at California Baptist University, USA. Currently, he serves as the Principal at Methodist Charles Wesley Music Vocational High School in Medan, Indonesia. He is also the conductor of Medan Community Choir, founded in 2015, and has led the choir to achieve many awards in national and international choral festivals.
Susanna Saw 2024 SGCF Jury

Susanna Saw

Susanna Saw is an active music educator promoting music and choral education in Malaysia. She obtained her Master in Music Education (Choral Focus) from Westminster Choir College, U.S.A. She is currently a lecturer and choir director at the Faculty of Music at the University of Malaya (UM) and the Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA), where she conducts the MIA Ladies Chorus, the Men’s Chorus and the Mixed Voices Choir. Both the Men and Ladies Choruses have won many gold medals and been category winners in various international competitions.

In 2007, Susanna established the Young Choral Academy in Kuala Lumpur, a venue for choral lovers to learn more about vocal and choral education. She was instrumental in bringing the Kodály Teachers’ Training Course to Malaysia to improve the standards of local classroom music teaching. She organized the 24th International Kodály Symposium in August 2019, in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia; through this, she hopes to bring more awareness of the Kodály teaching philosophy to the Southeast Asian region. During the pandemic, Susanna organized monthly Kodály Online Hangouts, bringing together music educators from around the world to learn, sing and stay connected.

Susanna is also the Founder and Director of the Malaysian Choral Eisteddfod (MCE), which organised various symposium, national and international choir festival since 2002. Since 2007, Susanna has been regularly invited by INTERKULTUR, Germany, to be a member of the jury for the Asia Pacific and World Choir Games. She has been appointed a member of the Working Committee for the Asia-Pacific Choral Council, under the auspices of the International Federation of Choral Music (IFCM). Susanna is also an active speaker at various music education events, promoting effective music teaching in the 21st century. She currently holds the position of Vice-President in the International Kodály Society, the World Youth and Children Choral Artists’ Association, and the Malaysian Association for Music Education. She is also serves on the Advisory Board of CHORALSPACE, Germany.
Roni Sugiarto 2024 SGCF Jury

Roni Sugiarto

Roni Sugiarto is one of the leading conductor of children and youth choir in Indonesia. He is known for his award-winning choir, Saint Angela Choir, where he promotes genuine, expressive and beautiful appropriate singing for children and youth. With SAC, he has attained international achievements in Hangzhou, Japan, Rome, Florence, South Korea and Tolosa, Spain. The last achievement with the Saint Angela Choir was champion in the children's category,2 prize in folklore category, and the grand prix winner in the 5th International Choir Competition 2023. He received vocal and conducting education through the guidance of Joseph Kristanto and Avip Priatna. In 2009 – 2010, Roni received a scholarship from the German Government (Goethe-Institut) to deepen his knowledge of conducting through the "Conducting Workshop for Orchestra" program in Bangkok (Thailand) under the baton of Maestro Gudni A. Emilsson from Tubingen, Germany. His experience in singing has increased with representing Indonesia in the Indonesian National Youth Choir 2005, World Youth Choir 2006, 2007 and 2008. He has also attended active conducting and vocal masterclasses with Jonathan Velasco (Philippines), Julie Spitill (Australia), and Marcus LaPratt (USA). Currently, Roni serves as Artistic Director of the Saint Angela Children and Youth Choir Festival, and the Satya Dharma Gita Choir Festival. As music director of Saint Angela Choir and ITB Student Choir, Bandung. He often serves as a judge in many national and international choir competitions, and actively leads training for choirs and conductors on various occasions.
Jude B. Roldan 2024 SGCF Jury

Roldan

Internationally-published composer Jude Bautista Roldan graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Santo Tomas Conservatoryof Music, where he studied piano and choral conducting. He also holds a master's degree in music education and composition. Jude also holds the multifaceted position of artistic director, pianist, composer, and arranger for the Young Voices of the Philippines.

He and his wife, Maria Theresa Vizconde-Roldan, founded YVP as part of their advocacy to support and strengthen the children and youth's choral movement in the Philippines. His works have been recorded, premiered, and performed in festivals and competitions, including the Pacific International Choral Festival and the Oregon Bach Festival in the USA, Tolosa Choral Competitions and Seghizzi Choral Competitions, Cantemus International Choral Festival in Hungary, Bali International Choral Festival, Saint Angele Children and Youth Choir Festival in Indonesia, Taipei Philharmonic Children's Choir Festival in Taiwan, and at the International Kodaly Symposium in Kuching, Malaysia. Hal Leonard, Pavane Music, and Muziksea publish his works.

In 2023, his extended work for choir and orchestra, Missa Virtutum, had its premiere at the historic Carnegie Hall Isaac Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage conducted by Dr. Janet Hostetter with the Children's Chorus of Washington, Saint Genevieve Valiant Voices, Shenandoah Valley Children's Chorus, Toronto Children's Chorus, Virginia Children’s Chorus, the Young Voices of the Philippines, and the Children's Orchestra Society. The piece was also premiered in December of the same year at the Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto, Canada.

He has served as chairman at the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) in the Philippines. He has guest-conducted and adjudicated in choral competitions and festivals abroad. He has given composition and choral workshops in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea, and the United States of America. Jude is the co-founder and artistic director of the Young Voices of the Philippines and Kantabella.

He teaches Composition and Music Technology, Piano, Music Theory, and Analysis at Centro Escolar University.

Petrus Wahyu

Experiencing choir for the first time was when he became a member of the high school choir. Learn Conducting self-taught by leading a church choir and attending training, seminars, symposiums and master classes under the guidance of Indra Listyanto, Prof. Andre de Quadros, Anne Charlotte Lundell. In 1990, began to lead the church choir, and then began to handle school choirs in the city of Semarang since 1992, as like as PL Bernadus Elementary School, PL Don Bosko Elementary School, PL. Xavier Elementary School, Domenico Savio Middle School, SMA Negeri 3, Satya Darma Gita Faculty of Law Undip. In 1997 founded Suara Surgawi Choir of Semarang Cathedral. Since 2005, has handled Karangturi Choir, and within 17 years, has produced achievements at national and international level competitions, including 2008 Champion in FPS ITB XXI in the Children B category, 2009 Champion in the Children Category and Gold Medal Equal Voices in A Voyage of Song , Penang Malaysia, 2010 Champion of Word Choir Games category Children
